PRIMALOFT
- Natural down is recognized for the fact that it offers the best insulation, but loses its properties under the influence of humidity. Albany International Corporation accepted the challenge to invent a waterproof insulation as effective as natural down. In 1988, he cooperated with the US Department of Defense, to create PrimaLoft insulation, also known as “synthetic down”.
- Currently, PrimaLoft filling is mainly used in products used outside (jackets, gloves, shoes, sleeping bags, etc.). However, its use is much wider, which allows PrimaLoft to also be used in household textiles (pillows, quilts).
- There are several types of PrimaLoft insulation, which is divided in 3 main categories: Black, Silver and Gold. Each of these categories includes insulations of different compositions and properties.
- Products marked as Eco deserve a distinction, which means that it is an ecological version of the insulation, made partially or entirely from recycled fibers.
- Regardless of the PrimaLoft category, the principle of operation is common. Properly formed and subjected to different processes, the polyester fibers create a fluffy structure that contains micro holes that retain air, effectively protecting the user from adverse external conditions.
- The specific characteristics of the fibers make the insulation light, compressed and warm at the same time time. Fibers with a small cross-section generate tension on a large surface, which prevents moisture from penetrating the insulation and transports water molecules out of the material. For the user, this means that the filling keeps its continue the high thermal properties when it is wet, giving at the same time the sensation of being dry.
